<image:title>About me... - Your average Jo, that loves to travel…</image:title>
<image:caption>Hello! I’m Jodie and I bloody love to travel! I’m also partial to a cold beer, can be found eating my way through a cheese board, big Saints FC fan and have way too many pairs of sunglasses and bobble hats for one person… I was born and bred in Basingstoke, Hampshire but now living the SW London life with my husband and 10-year old son. I’ve done the backpacking/gap year thing, met my Scottish husband in Australia, travelled extensively as much as work holidays would allow (skiing/safari/beach/island-hopping/short haul/long haul/cultural/not so cultural…), got engaged and married in Hydra Greece, honeymooned in South America, baby-mooned in Croatia and now drag our son to as many places as we can during those pesky school hols! In Oct 2020, I decided that I wanted to take this passion into my job and joined Designer Travel as an Independent Travel Agent, so now I get to research, plan and book other people’s holidays too! I have 16+ years experience in relationship/account management so I love to work with customers to get to their desired outcome. I would like to share this wonderful world with you (not just in hope of you booking something!) but packing a bag to show you how amazing it is and that you don’t need to travel far to have these awesome life experiences - they’re on your doorstep too! All photos on this site are my own - please enjoy them and ask before sharing - thanks! If you would like to contact me to discuss ANYTHING travel related, please pop me an email! I’d love to hear from you. You can also subscribe to my travel newsletter by clicking the SUBSCRIBE button below… Please check out my social pages too; links below for more travel inspo/deals and probably way too many beer and sunset pics…</image:caption>

On our first trip here we flew into Athens and headed down to Piraeus Port to catch the hydrofoil boat across here. The main thing you need to know about Hydra is that it has no vehicles on the island (apart from the rubbish truck). People get about using mules or boats and that’s what makes it. I think its clear that I love a wander when on hols and this island is perfect for it - the port is lined with restaurants, bars and the most stunning of boats (keep your eyes peeled) but when you head around the island there are some lush inlets with beaches and local restaurants - lots to explore. You can venture further by walking up Mount Eros (just behind the Port) to get gorgeous views of Hydra and the Port too. These islands are very popular with Greek locals as they’re perfect for a weekend break from Athens - there are 4 islands on the ferry route - Aegina, Poros, Hydra & Spetses so you can easily “hop” between them.</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - Greek Islands - Santorini</image:title>
<image:caption>Our trip to Santorini was a massive treat - we flew here after our wedding for a 5 day break to just chill out and stayed in one of the most fabulous places I think we’ve ever stayed in - Grace hotel. As I say it was our “mini-moon” if you will, so we splashed out! That aside Santorini is exactly what you see here, white washed buildings, cobbled streets and blue domes popping up. Great for wandering/exploring at your leisure. The beaches aren’t anything to shout about here (its a volcanic island)…just to manage expectations. So if you need water defo opt for a hotel with a pool. We stayed in Imerovigli which is nestled 20mins walk from the main town of Thira. For us, this was perfect as we could opt to be in the hustle bustle or not. Thira does get busy with cruise ship/tourist dump during the day so be warned. Oia is a lovely clifftop village where the windmills are and is best known for its sunsets, but make sure you get your place early…! It’s incredibly popular! Do that or hire a boat and see the sunset out on the waters which is incredible!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - Greek Islands - Mykonos</image:title>
<image:caption>Mykonos was a surreal visit for us as we visited in August 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, so I feel like we didn’t really see the true Mykonos as it’s best known. But what I did see we absolutely LOVED. The most pristine, palm tree lined beaches. And so many to choose from. We stayed on the southern part of the island - Psarrou Beach, which was perfect as within a 20 minute walking radius we had another 4 beaches to explore by foot (Platis Gialos/Agia Anna/Paraga/Paradise). And not just OK beaches - gorgeous ones! This didn’t stop us exploring more - Ornos beach for family fun, waves lapping the shore and bars/restaurants lining the walkway; Agios Sostis for golden sands and a delicious taverna (Kiki’s) that serves you wine whilst you wait (be prepared to wait and potentially get tipsy!)</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - Croatia - Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar - Dubrovnik</image:title>
<image:caption>Dubrovnik is perfect for a weekend break! Only a few hours from London where you can properly get away from it all and combine the best of both - city and sea! Did you know that the city is a UNESCO World Heritage site?! Its an amazing city to explore - check out the Forts and Cathedrals, get lost in the numerous paths of the Old Town and definitely walk the famous City Walls - its a classic tourist spot but really lovely - views galore and the odd place to stop off to admire the view and take in a cold beverage! If you love a view - get yourself on the Cable car which takes you up to Mount Srd for a sundowners to see epic views of the Old Town and the Adriatic Sea! If you’re more of the active type you can SUP or kayak from here too the waters are insanely clear and calm. Or take a boat trip out to one of the local islands - Lokrum or the Elaphiti Islands. Lastly, if you’re looking for some beach time head over to Copacabana or Banje beaches and get amongst the beach bars!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - Croatia - Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar - Hvar Island</image:title>
<image:caption>We LOVED Hvar! Again, a perfect mix of going for a wander through the streets, having a beer in the bay, heading to the beach for a chill out and enjoying a cocktail watching the sun set. I couldn’t ask for more! Hvar is 105 minute ferry trip from Split, arriving in Stari Grad to a gorgeous bay where you will find numerous restaurants and bars. One of the must do’s is to walk up to the Fortress - Tvrdava Fortica. A really gentle walk where once at the top you will be greeted with stunning panoramic views looking down on Hvar and out to the Pakleni Islands. Walking around the island be it East or West from Stari Grad you will find numerous swimming spots and little beaches/inlets to chill out on - I will mention here that they are mainly rocky and pebbly so either let your feet brave it or find some attractive footwear that will protect you/stop you from hopping from foot to foot! BUT the water is so clear, so its defo worth it!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - Croatia - Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar - Split</image:title>
<image:caption>Split was a great starting point for us to go and discover the islands, so give yourselves a night or two here to ease yourselves into the holiday! Split is known for its historical sites and waterfront bars and restaurants. It also has a centre which is protected by Palace Walls. Very photographic and a good mix of options for that afternoon holiday beer. If you fancy stretching your legs a bit further then go and have a wander up Marjan Park. It’s lined with pine trees and once you reach the top, make sure you turn around and check out the most awesome view look down into Split. As you descend the other side you’ll see some lovely inlets of beach and clear waters in you fancy a paddle! Split is also a great location to do some day trips - one being Plitvice Lakes - another UNESCO World Heritage Site for its stunning nature - scenery, caves, lakes and spectacular waterfalls. A must!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - Isle of Skye, Scotland - Elgol</image:title>
<image:caption>I am very fortunate that my in-laws live in Elgol on the Isle of Skye, so with every trip we try to explore as much of the Isle as we can (or not! It’s also great to have some proper downtime!). You will get stunning views of the Cuillin mountains, whatever the weather, from the shore/Elgol Pier (you’ll see our son has already claimed it as his!), plus you can get a boat out to Loch Coruisk which is one of the finest freshwater lochs in Scotland - it can be boggy so take sturdy/waterproof footwear! Lastly, have a wander through Spar Caves (when the tide is out!) and be sure to check out the Elgol Shop for their tasty sweet and savoury treats - you would have earned it!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - Isle of Skye, Scotland - Fairy Pools, Glenbrittle</image:title>
<image:caption>The pools that keep on giving. Be prepared to be shoulder to shoulder with other like minded people, or get up early to get yourself parked to see these beauts. A very short walk down to the pools from the car park and you’re in waterfall heaven - we weren’t brave enough to take a dip but you can if you have the balls to do so!! Multiple waterfalls along the River Brittle that are blue or green in colour with the stunning Cuillin mountains as their backdrop. You can walk as little or as far as you want (same route there and back takes approx. 40 mins) but make sure you give yourself time to explore or just sit and stare… Well worth the car park fee which when we went was £5!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - Isle of Skye, Scotland - Point of Sleat</image:title>
<image:caption>On our last trip to Skye I did a little googling on some nice walks. My husband and I had a cheeky night away whilst our son was having some quality 1:1 time with his Grandparents. We were staying down on the south tip of Skye in a gorgeous hotel called Duisdale House and as we had this time together to enjoy a walk without it taking triple the length of time when with our son (sorry mate, but its true!), we found a nice little 2 hour number to the Point of Sleat. The reviews said that you’d pass a fantastic white sand beach, ha, in Scotland - never! The walk itself is on a single track road and before you know it, you’re in the Caribbean! A white sand beach, clear waters oh and a shitload of jellyfish! Not quite the weather for sunbathing, but make sure you pack a picnic and some beers whilst enjoying the view! You can also walk round to the lighthouse and on a clear day you can see across to Rum, Canna and Eigg! This one is not to be missed!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - Isle of Skye, Scotland - Old Man of Storr</image:title>
<image:caption>Possibly one of the most ‘famous’ sights on the Isle - I mean, Romesh Ranganathan has been here! But if you’re this far up then it’s a must. Just north of Portree, the Old Man is in an area known as Trotternish, sandwiched between Portree and Staffin. The Old Man himself is a large pinnacle of rock that can be seen for miles around (if you don’t get the classic ‘dreich’ Scottish weather of course!) and was created due to a massive ancient landslide - a photographers dream! The walk is do-able, starting and returning in the same spot and takes just over an hour. You can park at the bottom, but be warned of how busy it can get!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - South America - Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia & Peru - Rio De Janeiro, Brazil</image:title>
<image:caption>Copacabana and Ipanema beaches were just as awesome as you’d imagine them to be; long stretches of golden sands, plus they had beach bars a plenty! You could bar crawl all day and still not get amongst all of them…(gutted we were on such a strict time schedule!)…get your lips round a Brahma and you’ll be set! Christ the Redeemer was mental busy with tourists (as expected!) but you just gotta do it and get a selfie with the big man. The funicular up to it is a must by itself. Sugarloaf Mountain is another must-do for the views alone, I hadn’t realised how stunningly beautiful Rio would be - I took so many photos here. We also did the cable cars across the favelas - a real eye opener. The one thing I would suggest is to get up high - go and see the views, they do really go on for days and are worth it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - South America - Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia & Peru - Iguazu Falls - Brazil and Argentina</image:title>
<image:caption>The extent of these waterfalls blew my mind, so not surprising to understand that together these waterfalls make them the largest waterfall in the world. We spent 2-days visiting here, which you might think is a lot but you can see them from both the Brazilian and Argentinean sides. The Brazilian side gives you a fabulous walkway and views of the enormity of the falls but beware, you end up looking like you’ve just had a shower! The Argentinean side offers you a boat trip to get closer to the falls which is epic - the sound alone of the falls is ridiculous! Either way, prepared to be amazed, in awe and absolutely bloody soaked by the end of the day!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - South America - Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia & Peru - La Paz, Bolivia</image:title>
<image:caption>La Paz is 3,500m above sea level so messes with your head because you want to walk everywhere and see it all but you feel so tired at the same time, so definitely take things slowly even if you don’t want to! The views into La Paz and then out of La Paz when you’re in the city are spectacular, so make sure you keep your head up when you’re walking around. And definitely head to the viewpoints because they’re worth it. We stumbled across a very cool bar in La Paz called Diesel Nacional - a unique bar made with all the parts of trains/railway that ceased to exist there. Cocktails great too! A trip to Luna Valley is also recommended, not quite the moon, but loads of clay tall spires to amble around - something a bit different!</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - South America - Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia & Peru - Cusco, Peru</image:title>
<image:caption>Andean Explorer - Puno to Cusco; This was one of our favourite parts of the holiday. A scenic train journey through the Andes. I thought this type of trip was for the (ahem) older generation but we thoroughly enjoyed it - lots of erm, mountains (!) and river valleys to see and all from the comfort of the train (with a beer!). There was a viewing deck at the back which was floor to ceiling glass to absorb more scenery. Cusco, Peru - Cusco is the door to the Inca’s. A really lovely town to touch base before embarking on Machu Picchu and your Inca journey. Plaza de Armas square is perfect for a stroll, shop and beer - some lovely rooftop places to enjoy the city at night too.</image:caption>

<image:title>Where next...? - South America - Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia & Peru - Machu Picchu, Peru</image:title>
<image:caption>I don’t think anything I can write here will do it justice. Saving the best ‘til last, this was a real “pinch me” moment. Absolutely breath-taking. And an unbelievable history - how the hell they transported those rocks without wheels is beyond me - I was knackered from walking myself up there! We spent about 5-hours here - I’ve never taken so many photos. No “wonder” it’s a Seven Wonder of the World. Bucket list well and truly ticked.</image:caption>
